2021 Soberanes Vineyard Chardonnay
93 points
Vinous
Blood orange, dried apricot and white flower give preview to a coating palate, impressively expressive. Tangy acidity balances the creamy texture in the mouth. Marzipan and toasted almonds lend complexity to the ample finish.
2021 will be remembered as a challenging year, with record low rainfall producing smaller vine growth and very low yields of very small berries. 2021 is also a remarkably fine vintage with many wines performing near their best in quality. The young 2021 wines are showing great promise as intensely concentrated, complex wines, sure to give pleasurable drinking for years to come.
The Soberanes Vineyard, located in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands, builds upon a tradition of high-quality winegrowing. The vineyard is a special project between the Pisoni and Franscioni families, whose friendship spans three generations and are known for the Pisoni, Garys', Rosella’s and Sierra Mar Vineyards. We made this wine for the first time in 2018. We are thrilled to be working with this outstanding St. Lucia Highlands vineyard after admiring other Soberanes Vineyard wines for years.
