2011 California< Back to all Pinot Noirs
FIVE BARREL brings together the cinnamon and spice aromatics of Hyde Vineyard (two barrels), with Pisoni Vineyard’s deep, rich raspberry fruit, Jenkin’s texture and mouthfeel and the density and structure of Pinot Noir from Chenoweth Ranch. Though the two barrels from Hyde form the base of this wine, collectively, each vineyard brings a different facet to the jewel. The end result is a blend notable for its layered complexity, with each vineyard shining through in different ways. The wine was aged in 100% new oak, which has added further lift and expansiveness to an already exceptional mid-palate.

“Good bright, dark red. Knockout nose melds black raspberry, pepper, cola, coffee and loam, lifted by a whiff of orange peel; I hate to describe a blend as Chambolle-like but that's the overall effect. Rich, concentrated and stuffed with red fruits and spices. Wonderfully mouthfilling, perfumed wine with layered complexity and terrific verve. Broad but magically light, finishing with fine-grained tannins and echoing perfume of sappy raspberry and flowers. I would not be surprised if this merited an even higher score in three or four years.”
