A Shared Vision

Established in 1988, Patz & Hall embodies the shared vision and collective expertise of four talented friends — Donald Patz, James Hall, Anne Moses and Heather Patz. Together, this dedicated team of individuals has turned a desire to craft benchmark, single-vineyard Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs into one of California's most celebrated artisan wineries.

The seeds for Patz & Hall were planted in the 1980s when assistant winemaker James Hall and national sales manager Donald Patz struck up a close friendship while working together at Flora Springs Winery and Vineyards. The two discovered a mutual enthusiasm for a rich and compelling style of wine made by applying traditional winemaking techniques to fruit from elite, small vineyards. Inspired to combine their winemaking and sales talents, James and Donald joined with partners Anne Moses and Heather Patz, to establish Patz & Hall in 1988.

In the early years, the partners all worked second jobs in order to support their small, family-run winery. This commitment to hard work enabled the founders to incorporate the wealth of knowledge and experience gained while working at such prestigious wineries as Far Niente, Honig Winery, Spring Mountain, Marimar Torres Estate, Girard Winery and Cain Vineyard & Winery.

To achieve their goal of crafting exceptional limit-production wines, the four founders have each focused their specialized knowledge, expertise and daily attention to different areas of the winery's operations. This integrated, hands-on approach, along with a commitment to developing close personal relationships with a handful of California 's finest growers, has become the cornerstone of the winery's success-allowing Patz & Hall to continually realize the highest levels of quality and consistency.

Building on this foundation, Patz & Hall has created an acclaimed portfolio of wines using fruit from exceptional family-owned vineyards in the Napa Valley, Russian River Valley, Mendocino County, Sonoma Coast and Santa Lucia Highlands . Vintage after vintage, the Patz & Hall Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are recognized for their evocative character, dramatic flavors and seductive textures.

Adding to the Patz & Hall experience, the winery opened its well-appointed Patz & Hall Tasting Salon in 2005. Offering intimate sit-down tastings of the winery's coveted single-vineyard wines, the Salon reflects the winery's gracious spirit and warm personality. In 2007, Patz & Hall opened a state-of-the-art winery in Sonoma . Designed by winemaker James Hall exclusively for the production of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this new winery will serve to further enhance quality by allowing the Patz & Hall team complete control during every step of the winemaking process.
