Pisoni Vineyard

2011 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

A superstar, and certainly one of the wines of the vintage, the 2011 growing season has yielded a pure and dynamic expression of Pisoni, with red raspberry and cherry aromatics that leap out of the glass. For all of its power and intensity, there is a layered complexity and a clarity to the flavors that make this wine quite elegant. On the palate, the texture is sappy and mouthcoating. At the same time, acidity from the cool vintage adds a fresh, cleansing quality that accentuates the focus of the fruit and brings an overarching brightness. James describes the wine, which is his favorite, as “intricate and fascinating” and “almost a contradiction.”

  • 91 Points | “Located south of San Francisco, Patz & Hall has long produced a wine from the famous Pisoni Vineyards, and their 2011 Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard offers up perfumed raspberry and floral notes intermixed with hints of dusty, loamy soil, roast beef, black currants and black cherries. With a lovely, full-bodied mouthfeel, it carries its 14.8% natural alcohol very elegantly. Drink it between now and 2019.” - Robert Parker
