Hudson Vineyard

2011 Carneros Chardonnay

This may be our favorite Chardonnay of the vintage. As it evolves in the glass, the nose is constantly revealing something new, from layers of smoke, hazelnut and dried flowers to lush peach, pear and summer melon notes. There is also a slightly chalky soil component that adds complexity to the fetching aromas. On the palate, it is dense and coating, but there is also beautiful acidity underpinning youthful flavors of lemon and grapefruit. The finish reveals a hint of honeycomb, like a great white Burgundy in cooler years, as well as Hudson’s signature toastiness.

Accolades

  • 91 (+?) Points | “Pale, bright yellow with a green tinge. Highly complex, downright Burgundian nose combines peach, hazelnut, iodine, sweet butter and smoky lees. Rich and intense but quite tight and laid-back today, with a firm impression of acidity giving the wine a rather uncompromising dryness. Less fat than the Sonoma Coast and Dutton Ranch bottlings, but more citrussy and taut. In a distinctly cool style for chardonnay from this site.”
